In a recent study by Bhattacharya et al., covering 39 patients with Parkinson's syndrome, slitlike lesions at the region of the lateral putamina were noted mainly in patients with multiple system atrophy with predominant parkinsonism. Location of such lesions in the lateral putamina was histologically confirmed in a case study. This indicated striato-nigral degeneration. Such lesions were less prominent in patients with Parkinson's disease. With respect to the patient in this case, who clinically had multiple system atrophy with predominant parkinsonism, there were bilateral thin lesions which corresponded to the region of the claustrum, although we do not have histologic cofirmation.
